A Day in the Life of a Healthcare Recruiter

Published by |

Happy New Year! To kick off the new year right,  with a little humor, I thought I’d share the stages of your day as a talent acquisition professional. Don’t worry HR or Organizational Development professionals out there — I’ll post something soon that’s just for you.

Here at HealthcareSource, we’re always talking to our customers to learn how they’re using our products to contribute to a positive patient experience. But let’s put the serious stuff aside for a moment so that you can enjoy an exaggerated and comedic interpretation of a “typical day” in the life of a healthcare recruiter! Here it is:

7:00 a.m. – Your alarm goes off.  You snooze another 15 minutes. Your first interview isnt until 10:00 a.m. You can be a LITTLE late.

8:00 a.m. – You leave your house and are pleasantly surprised by the lack of traffic–AND your favorite song just came on the radio.  It’s going to be a GREAT day.

8:30 a.m. – You walk into the office and see a basket of bagels and cream cheese. Finance sent them as a thank you for helping out with the headcount for the annual budget review.

8:32 a.m. – You grab a bagel–even though you had oatmeal before you left the house AND a banana in the car… because really, who can say no to BAGELS?!

8:36 a.m. – Yum.

8:45 a.m. – You just got an Outlook reminder that your referencing checking software proposal  is due to the executive board…and you TOTALLY forgot.

8:57 a.m. – Alright, grab your coffee let’s DO THIS.

9:04 a.m. – Time to get to work!

The 21 Stages Of A Friday Workday

9:48 a.m. – You’re on a ROLL. This proposal is coming together. They’re DEFINITELY going to approve your request to get an automated reference checking solution.

10:32 a.m. – Oops, you got distracted. You have a candidate for a senior IT position waiting for an interview.

10:52 a.m. – They just told you that their biggest weakness is that they’re an overachiever and they work too hard…

11:34 a.m. – They also just said “supposably.” Did you mean supposedly…?

12:05 p.m. – It’s time for that DELICIOUS Lean Cuisine you brought for lunch…try and contain your excitement.

12:50 p.m. You’ve been avoiding it all day, but you manage to pick up the phone to call a few references. The man on the other end of the phone is not happy you’re disturbing him during his lunch.

12:53 p.m. – You  manage to hold back the tears.

12:55 p.m. – You dial another number. It rings once. They DEFINITELY ignored your call.

1:38 p.m – You spend the next hour going through resumes. The first 30 minutes of which is spent combing through your email to find ones that did not come in through the system. To your dismay, the nursing department refuses to use the ATS for referrals.

2:35 p.m. – There are a couple of candidates in here that might be worth phone screening.  You conduct a bit of research on social channels to see what you can find.

3:01 p.m. – You scan through the resume of a candidate for an open patient sitter position before you go in to interview her. You notice a typo.

3:41 p.m. –  She was VERY sweet, but played with her hair throughout the ENTIRE interview. You say you’ll be in touch…

4:08 p.m. – You get back to your desk just in time for a phone call from your most persistant candidate. You check his application status and tell him that he’s moved on to the interview stage. He thanks you profusely.

4:30 p.m. – The CFO just emailed you saying that the board has approved your request for a reference checking solution! NO MORE PHONE TAG AND UNANSWERED VOICEMAILS FOR YOU! YAY!

5:03 p.m –
You’ve been so busy all day that you forgot it was FRIDAY and you are SO excited! TGIF!
