HealthcareSource recently attended the National Association of Healthcare Recruitment (NAHCR) Image 2011 Conference, which ran from Tuesday July 12th to Friday the 15th. This annual conference is a meeting of the minds for healthcare recruitment professionals from across the country who are NAHCR members. Although HealthcareSource has been an exhibitor at NAHCR for years, I arrived as a first time attendee. I was looking forward to meeting HealthcareSource users and speaking with NAHCR members.
Also, as a former Recruiter, I was eager to speak with the Human Resources professionals to find out what hot topics they were discussing. The first thing I noticed was how happy everyone seemed to be there. All of the attendees I spoke with said they were absorbing useful information and insight from the workshops. There were also new members being initiated at the event; those with New Member badges were beaming and seemed overjoyed to be recent inductees of such a great organization. Experiencing the positive and exciting atmosphere was definitely a highlight. As a vendor, we were pleased to have the opportunity to talk with those in attendance during the late afternoon and early evening of the first day and then again throughout lunch the next day. Several attendees, including Besty Eaves, Recruitment Coordinator at CaroMont Health, mentioned how much they enjoyed Jay Fortes keynote address. The presentation touched on aligning your daily activities as a Recruiter with your organizations larger goals. According to those I spoke with from CaroMont, Jay used engaging and relevant examples to form conclusions and advise his listeners on best practices.
Tessa Schmidt, Employment Manager for Akron Childrens Hospital, mentioned on Twitter that the biggest highlights of NAHCR were interacting with the fabulous vendors, including HealthcareSource and Staff Assessment, and listening to the amazing speakers who gave her valuable information to take back with her. We also gained valuable information from speaking with Position Manager users, such as Akron Childrens Hospital, about their experience with our software. It was such a pleasure to speak with our clients, like Tessa, and to meet so many Healthcare HR professionals who could not have been more engaging.
Congratulations to Jessica Quezada Jackson of Phoenix Children’s Hospital for winning our Coach Bag Gift Card at the conference!
Jodi Weiss, Senior Recruiter at Childrens Mercy Hospital, and Ann Lacamera, Senior HR Representative at Yale New Haven Hospital, were gracious enough to share their experiences using Interview Manager with those who attended the vendor demos on the second day. Ease of use, reducing time to fill and looking technologically savvy to candidates were mentioned, and we are grateful to them for sharing feedback with their peers. Hearing Jodi and Anns remarks about our software was the most validating part of the event for us. It also seems the excitement is building for our soon-to-be new product Sourcing Manager, which will allow users to track their job postings performance through Position Manager from requisition to hire.
A hot topic of the conference was the use of social media for sourcing, particularly LinkedIn and Twitter. Rob Humphrey of LinkedIn presented on using social media to engage employees, which is also a growing trend in HR. Many attendees were tweeting during this years event. Several tweets went out congratulating Lydia Ostermeier, Director of Nurse Recruitment at Indiana University Health, for being named President of NAHCR at the Image Conference. We also congratulate her, and we have to say thank you to Lydia, along with the other NAHCR committee members, for putting on such a wonderful event.
Healthcare Recruiter Marilynn McCoy of Akron Childrens tweeted that making new friends and re-connecting with old friends was one of the highlights of the event for her. Healthcare Recruiters throughout the NAHCR event mentioned that it was wonderful to talk through the unique issues facing Healthcare HR with their peers. It helps to know youre not alone and to brainstorm with others as you work through challenges to find the right solutions. Perhaps that is the biggest highlight of the annual NAHCR conference–the NAHCR members themselves connecting with one another. Let the countdown to next year in Indianapolis begin…
